To all - As in life, things don't always go as planned.......
As of this past Tuesday we had the ok and were all set to announce a Vettes to Vets 2021 Parade Only event. The usual static display of Corvettes, BBQ, music and presentations was not an option again this year. This year's plan was to gather at a new parking lot location next to the Courtyard Marriott in Billerica between 11:30-1:30 on the last Sunday in September (9/26). Departing with a limited number of Corvettes (50-75) and parade around the hospital once or twice. The limited number was based on logistics and campus size. We would have a drop off truck at the staging area for physical donations and a small registration table with a monetary donation bucket. No hat/garment sales, no pins, no music, no event booklet, no big gathering.
This would be a 'shine only' event. If inclement weather, the patients would not be able to come out to see the parade.
A 25 room block was set up at the hotel with a of rate $105/night. (8/3- 9/3) Note: The hotel is not in a position to offer any food or bar service at this time. Therefore, there would be no Saturday night banquet/auction, no Sunday morning breakfast, no lobby food/bar service. Guests could utilize the lobby dining area with take out but no open alcohol containers.
We felt this would be at least some type of event to continue to honor our Veterans.
However, on Thursday we were notified the hospital is again in lockdown. I'm sure you understand what this entails. Not visitation, no events, no parade.
Therefore, sad to say, Vettes to Vets is cancelled again this year.
Opportunities to support our Veterans are still available and greatly appreciated.
- Monetary donations can be made, payable to 'Vettes to Vets' and mailed to the address listed below.
- A donation truck will be on site in the parking lot by the Courtyard Marriott on Sunday 9/26 from 11:30-1:30 for anyone wishing to stop by with donations. (Rain or shine we will be there.)
*Items mostly requested are men's sweatpants and sweatshirts (med-2XL), men' s sneakers (8-11), body wash, shampoo, and hair combs/brushes.
